First Sacrament Talk

Hannah gave her first Sacrament talk on Sunday, February 9th.  She was so nervous and really didn't want to do it, but she excepted the invitation to speak on service.  Although she claimed that she was nervous you couldn't tell when she was speaking because her voice sounded so calm and she spoke slowly so everyone could understand her. Below is her talk...

There are many great things about turning twelve: young women's, temple trips, mutual, girl's camp But being asked to speak isn't one of them. I have been asked to speak today on service. Have you ever wanted a toy, a game, or a piece of sports equipment so much that you asked for it over and over again, and even imagined how happy you would be playing with it? If you finally got it, was it everything you expected? Were you disappointed? Did you get tired of playing with it? Did it break or wear out? Sometimes we think that having things will make us happy, but lasting happiness does not come from that. Happiness often comes, however from doing something kind or thoughtful for someone else. Have you ever planned a special surprise for a friend or family member? Wasn't' it fun! Have you ever worked hard to give someone a gift that you knew he would like? Was't it exciting! Have a ever helped a younger child do something that he couldn't do himself? Or spent time with someone who needed your love and attention. The happy feelings that come when we love and serve others can stay with us for a long time.
Our Savior gave Himself in unselfish service. He taught that each of us should follow Him by denying ourselves of selfish interests in order to serve others
It is not easy to give up our personal priorities and desires. Many years ago a new missionary in England was frustrated and discouraged. He wrote home saying he felt he was wasting his time. His wise father replied, Forget yourself and go to work.Young Elder Gordon B. Hinckley went to his knees and covenanted with the Lord that he would try to forget himself and lose himself in the Lords service. Years later, as a mature servant of the Lord, Elder Hinckley would say, He who lives only unto himself withers and dies, while he who forgets himself in the service of others grows and blossoms in this life and in eternity.
Perhaps when we [face] our Maker, we will not be asked, How many positions did you hold?but rather, How many people did you help?
Which reminds me of the hymn
Have I done any good in the world today?
Have I helped anyone in need?
Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad?
If not, I have failed indeed.
Has anyone's burden been lighter today
Because I was willing to share?
Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way?
When they needed my help was I there?
There are chances for work all around just now,
Opportunities right in our way.
Do not let them pass by, saying, "Sometime I'll try,"
But go and do something today.
In mosiah 2:17 it states And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.
At school we have been asked to do 50 acts of random kindness. It's exciting to all work together in a great cause and brighten someone's day.
President Monson said, you can never love the Lord until you serve Him by serving His people.

I hope we will all take the opportunity to do more good in the world today.  I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ amen.
