Cake Balls

My friend started this sweet tooth of mine when she bought me these delicious things called cake balls.  I even make a special trip to Tehachapi to purchase these delights.  I was so surprised when another friend told me how easy they were to make. I decided to post a step by step picture guide for any one who wants to try these yummy things!

First you bake a cake (follow the directions on the box).

When the cake cools, cut it up into pieces

Mix in a whole can of frosting with the cut of pieces of cake

It should look like this when you're done mixing it with your hands or a spoon.

Take the mixture and form little round cake balls
Then put them in the freezer for at least an hour. I usually freeze them overnight.

My husband purchased this handy device for me, so I just have to add one bag of candy melts at a time.  Sure beats microwaving it. If using the microwave put on 50% power at 30 second intervals until melted. Usually I use 2 bags of candy melts for each batch of cake balls.

In about 5 or so minutes the chocolate melts

I insert a skewer into the cake ball and dip it in the chocolate.

I tap the side of the pot to get rid of the extra chocolate attached to the cake ball.

I set the skewer into a Styrofoam box to hold it up until it dries. Usually takes around 5 minutes or so for each one.

When they dry I put them in small cupcake holders. This gives it a more finished look and hides the hole from the skewer.

Sometimes I melt different colors of chocolate and make designs on the cake balls.

We had a primary meeting and these are some of the deserts I made.

I made extra cake balls and put them in cute little boxes to give to Hannah's teacher and some friends for Valentine's Day.
