I found this on a friend's blog and decided to copy it. I have been helping spread the word by phoning voters about Prop 8. I found this quote by President Gordon B. Hinckley I'd like to share. It sums up my thoughts on this issue. "We have a tremendous responsibility. I do not hesitate to say that. So much depends on us. If not me, who? If not now, when? It is our job here and now to do our best to make a difference." Make a difference by getting involved with this issue.
Six Consequences If Proposition 8 Fails
1. Children in public schools will be taught that both traditional marriage and same-sex marriage are okay. The California Education Code already requires that health education classes instruct children about marriage. (§51890)Therefore, if the definition of marriage is changed, children will be taught that marriage is a relation between any two adults. There will be serious clashes between the secular school system and the right of parents to teach their children their own values and beliefs.
2. Churches will be sued if they refuse to allow same-sex marriage ceremonies in their religious buildings that are open to the public. Ask whether your pastor, priest, minister, bishop, or rabbi is ready to perform such marriages in your chapels and sanctuaries.
3. Religious adoption agencies will be challenged by government agencies to give up their long-held right to place children only in homes with both a mother and a father. Catholic Charities in Boston has already closed its doors because of the legalization of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts.
4. Religions that sponsor private schools and which provide housing for married students will be required to provide housing for same-sex couples, even if it runs counter to church doctrine, or lose tax exemptions and benefits.
5. Ministers who preach against same-sex marriages will be sued for hate speech and could be fined by the government. It has already happened in Canada, one of six countries that have legalized gay marriage.
6. It will cost you money. A change in the definition of marriage will bring a cascade of lawsuits. Even if courts eventually find in favor of a defender of traditional marriage (highly improbable given today’s activist judges), think of the money – your money, your church contributions – that will have to be spent on legal fees. And think of all the unintended consequences that we cannot even foresee at this time.
Where will it end? It’s your children, your grandchildren, your money, and your liberties. Lets work together to protect them. I believe this was written by Elder Larry Lawrence. Please help get the word out. Copy and paste this info and post it on your blog and/or email it to your contacts.

No. California law allows parents to remove their children from health ducation classes if they disagree with what is being taught.
"There will be serious clashes between the secular school system and he right of parents to teach their children their own values and
beliefs."
You don't have more influence over your children than the school system oes? No one agrees with everything their children are taught in chool. That's part of what parenting is about.
Besides, those same "activist judges" that approved marriage equality havealso ruled that it's legal for you to homeschool your kids.
"2. Churches will be sued if they refuse to allow same-sex marriage
ceremonies in their religious buildings that are open to the public. sk whether your pastor, priest, minister, bishop, or rabbi is ready to perform such marriages in your chapels and sanctuaries."
Only if those church-owned spaces are generally open to the public and used for public purposes. That's what happened to the Methodists in New Jersey - their pavilion was used for all sorts of secular activities, but when the church denied use of it to a same-sex couple, the church
lost its tax-exempt status -- but only on that building.
For churches and chapels, a church will still have the right to deny
marriage to whomever they wish, just as Catholic churches deny marriage to divorced people and th LDS church denies temple marriage to all but those who hold a temple recommend.
"3. Religious adoption agencies will be challenged by government
agencies to give up their long-held right to place children only in homes with both a mother and a father. Catholic Charities in Boston has already closed its doors because of the legalization of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts."
This had NOTHING to do with same-sex marriage. It was related to
anti-discrimination law in Massachusetts.
"4. Religions that sponsor private schools and which provide housing
for married students will be required to provide housing for same-sex couples, even if it runs counter to church doctrine, or lose tax exemptions and benefits."
Possibly. After all, Bob Jones University had to allow interracial
married couples to live in married student housing.
If you want public money, you have to follow public rules. If you want
to refuse public money and tax benefits, you can discriminate all you like. The Boy Scouts do.
"5. Ministers who preach against same-sex marriages will be sued for
hate speech and could be fined by the government. It has already
happened in Canada, one of six countries that have legalized gay
marriage."
Ridiculous nonsense. First, Canada does not have the same free speech
rights that we have guaranteed by the Constitution. Have you not
noticed Fred Phelps and his Baptists at military funerals with signs reading "God Hates Fags"? The First Amendment will keep your preachers safe.
"6. It will cost you money. A change in the definition of marriage will bring a cascade of lawsuits. Even if courts eventually find in favor of a defender of traditional marriage (highly improbable given today’s activist judges), think of the money – your money, your church

Also false. Churches will be no more or less likely to be sued if Prop 8 passes or fails.
It's disappointing to learn of fellow Americans who would stoop to peddling lies to support their position. Google "Six Consequences if Proposition 8 Fails" ... these are six totally false talking points that the "Yes on 8" campaign is trying to use to fire up their target voters. Anyone who bothers to study the issue will quickly learn that these six "consequences" are total fabrications and sad examples of ugly fearmongering from the "Yes on 8" campaign. Shame.
Hey girlie!!! Umm ya..so there are some weird people out there huh. I just deleted their comments off my blog and wrote a nasty note. And made it clear that I AM STILL VOTING YES!!! and that their comments only made me laugh cause they are so pathetic.
